The PAA is a volunteer social organization run by a hardworking group of dedicated parents.
The PAA is open to families of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Hospital for Special Surgery, Rockefeller University, WCMC, their affiliate institutions, and alumni of these training programs. There are more than 250 families, with a total of over 450 children, who benefit from this organization.
The PAA provides indoor and outdoor play areas, sponsors a Play-and-Learn Co-op for children ages 18 months through 4 years, discounted children’s enrichment classes, weekly playgroups for toddlers, field trips to places like the Bronx Zoo and the Coney Island Aquarium, and fun parties for PAA families throughout the year.
Since our inception in 1973, the Play Area Association has grown from a handful of New York Hospital parents to a network of many families, serving personnel in numerous areas of local hospitals and affiliated institutions. We continue to provide more services to meet the growing needs of our member families. With our growth, we recognized the need to reorganize our governing practices and to become legally recognized as an official not-for-profit organization, so in 2003, the PAA became an incorporation. In that same year, we started this website to better serve and communicate with our members.
The most important part of our history is you. The people we serve with our programs, events, trips, classes, and parties all add to our rich and valuable heritage. Your membership is appreciated. Thank you for your participation. Please consider volunteering to keep these efforts moving forward for future generations of families to come.
